Important COVID-19 coronavirus facts + its relation to vaping. It could be more dangerous than everyone thought. Above all for...
The iJoy Luna Pod System is a new Pod System soon to be launched. Aside from average specs, the iJoy vape kit has amazing looks and one trait that sets it apart from the crowd: it’s partly made out of glass. But is that a good idea?
Let’s get a closer look at the iJoy Luna kit.
Update: we’ve reviewed the iJoy Neptune and its glass construction is fine.
Actually, its build quality is impeccable. Plus, despite some falls, it didn’t break (so far).
It may not be the ideal material for durability but, as far as design, feel in the hand and build quality are concerned, glass, at least when its tempered glass, like for the iJoy Neptune (the same as the one used for iPhones according to iJoy) is quite good.
Also, we updated the pictures and a couple of specs of the iJoy Luna (max wattage output and coil resistance) because iJoy has improved them since the iJoy Luna Pod System was first announced.
Last, you’ll find a similar looking Pod System aluminum alternative to the iJoy Luna at the end of this preview, namely, the VapMor Vturn.
Kit Size: 98*24.4*10mm
Battery Capacity: 350mAh
Max Power: 11W
Material: Zinc alloy & stainless steel & hot bent glass
Support quick charging with included USB cable
E-juice Capacity: 1.4ml
Fill Type: Side refill
The iJoy Luna Pod System has average specs for a mouth to lung stick-shaped pod system. The battery is somewhat bigger than your typical Pod System, though.
The iJoy Luna uses
1.6 1.1Ω coils, refillable pods (if it was a closed pod system, we wouldn’t even bother presenting it to you) with a 1.4ml e-juice capacity. It has a 350 mAh battery, a quick charging feature thanks to its USB-C port and a 8.5W 11W maximum power output.
With that power output and coil head, and unless they screw up the airflow by making it too loose, this is a mouth to lung device, indeed. Plus, it has no button and is thus draw-activated, another indicator of its Mouth To Lung nature.
That’s about all we can say for now as far as features are concerned, except that it looks gorgeous, different for sure. What makes it different?
Beside a mouthpiece that seems rather large (though smaller than the new iJoy Neptune that, contrary to the Luna, has been launched), the main differentiators of the iJoy Luna are its design and the materials it’s made of.
Its simple, minimalist design makes it stand out right away. The different colors chosen by iJoy pop without being tacky. So, the device gives an elegant and modern vibe, no doubt about it.
But, like its big brother the iJoy Saturn and iJoy Neptune, the attribute that sets it most apart from the competition, is the material used for its front cover. It’s unusual for a pod system as well as for vaping devices in general for that matter. It’s glass. Curved glass to be precise.
Although it may make it feel good in our hands (it does for the iJoy Neptune) and pleasant to our eyes, won’t that make it slippery and, above all, brittle?
[Update: we reviewed the iJoy Neptune –links above– and isn’t slippery at all. It’s very well built and can withstand some shocks and drops without breaking/shattering]
Do we really have to add our vaping gear to the list of the fragile gadgets we own?
I’m sure iJoy will love that as it would mean more sales to replace the Lunas turned into a pile of glass, but would you?
As much as aesthetics and design, for us, here at MTLvaping.com, play an essential role in our buying decision, we don’t want to sacrifice durability (or performance for that matter) for them… unless we basically don’t have a choice, of course, like for smartphones nowadays. The very thing the iJoy Luna takes inspiration from.
So, we guess we’ll have to wait and see for ourselves before exercising any kind of judgement on the durability and the design proposition of this new Luna pod system from iJoy. Who knows, maybe it will be more solid than we expect. But glass in our vapes doesn’t inspire optimism.
It does look very good on pictures though.
Update: Again, this piece was written before we reviewed the iJoy Neptune. Our opinion on the use of glass has since changed. We’re not opposed to it anymore.
If you like the minimalistic and sophisticated design of the iJoy Luna Pod System but would rather it was not made of glass, you may want to check out the similar VapMor VTurn.
Like the Luna, it’s compatible with both regular and salt nic e-liquids but, thanks to its ceramic coils, also with CBD e-liquids.
Plus, beside a stain resistant coating, it has a cool feature that allows you to take the pod out, turn it upside down and put it back in the device to prevent dust, lint etc… to get in the mouthpiece. Nice.
We particularly like the Burgundy, Cream and Espresso Brown color.
